Autocraft

With assistance from Qualitrain motor industry engineers, Autocraft, have been quick to capitalise on the opportunity to further develop the skills of their maintenance team.

Based in rural Lincolnshire and employing more than 130 people, Autocraft Drivetrain Solutions Limited provides remanufactured diesel and petrol engines, transmissions and machined components to the automotive industry. The company offers a full remanufacturing solution to global automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers including core collection and storage, strip down, re-machining of cylinder heads and blocks, and identification and supply of replacement parts.

Because ADS works directly with a large range of global manufactures, it is imperative that the business can offer consistent levels of quality whilst retaining a high degree of flexibility. In an initial phase of training, 3 candidates who together form ADS’s maintenance department, are progressing through a training package developed by Qualitrain to meet specific, agreed objectives. The candidates have now gained new skills in hand tools, milling machine operations, stripping and repairing mechanical equipment and plant installation.

Qualitrain is delivering the training under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme and the candidates have already successfully completed the Numeracy, Communication, Technical Skill and Employees Rights and Responsibilities elements of the course, with just one observation to go to complete the Performing Engineering Operations qualification.

“This is a perfect example of an engineering business, with Qualitrain’s assistance, making use of existing training paths in a manner which is bespoke to their particular needs,” said Qualitrain MD Richard Bates. This maximises the benefit, providing a rewarding and motivational experience for the candidates and ensuring total relevance for the business. This small team is now well on the way to providing a more diverse and flexible service, drawing on larger and better defined skills base.”
