Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 NVQ

As a training provider, we know how important it is to support the local unemployed community with learning new skills that will enable them to find work. At Qualitrain Engineering Academy, we offer a pre-employment training course which provides basic engineering skills for individuals wanting to pursue a career in engineering.


The Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 NVQ provides a diverse learning environment for all individuals enrolled. This 6-week course enables candidates to learn the basics of engineering principles in our fully equipped Engineering Academy, based in Alfreton, Derbyshire.


All learners attending the course will gain new skills and knowledge of;
Health and safety, technical drawings, working efficiently and effectively within engineering, producing components using hand fitting techniques, producing sheet metal-work assemblies, and using MIG/MAG welding techniques.

Health & Safety

Health and Safety elements covered in the course include; COSHH, Health and Safety regulations, Manual handling, Tool/ equipment safety, principles of MIG/MAG welding.

Assessment pieces

All learners receive training on using multi-hand and mechanical tools, which they then go on to use to produce their own toolbox and a G-clamp from sheet metal as well as different sizes of mild steel bars.


Following adequate training learners will undertake a welding assessment which test learners’ skills when producing three different types of welds: Lap joint, T-fillet, and an open corner.


Finally, learners will also gain additional knowledge in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) and Parallel line development.
