Our September 2025 intake is now open, providing hands-on training, industry expertise, and nationally recognised qualifications.

Our apprentices don't just learn—they compete and succeed. In 2023, our talented apprentices reached the semi-finals of WorldSkills UK, and in 2024, they advanced to the finals, showcasing their skills on a national platform.

🎓 What Apprentices Will Learn 

Apprentices will gain comprehensive knowledge and skills essential for a successful career in metal fabrication, including: 

Core Knowledge: 

  • Understanding and complying with statutory, quality, organisational, and health and safety regulations. 
  • Applying general engineering mathematical and scientific principles, methods, techniques, graphical expressions, symbols, formulae, and calculations. 
  • Recognising the structure, properties, and characteristics of common materials involving heat treatment. 
  • Identifying typical problems that may arise within their normal work activities/environment. 
  • Utilising approved diagnostic methods and techniques to help solve engineering problems. 
  • Recognising the importance of continually reviewing fabrication and general engineering processes and procedures. 
  • Understand the effects of heating and cooling metals, metallurgy associated with joining and different types of welds and joints. 
  • Understanding processes for preparing materials to be marked out.  

Core Skills: 

  • Interpreting and following detailed technical drawings and specifications. 
  • Preparing and using appropriate tools, equipment, and machinery. 
  • Carrying out complex fabrication and welding tasks and heat-treating materials. 
  • Working with sheet metal on complex patterns (lobster back/square too round) 
  • Inspecting and testing fabricated components for quality and accuracy. 
  • Maintaining equipment and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency. 
  • Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirement in both MIG/MAG and TIG/TAG process (MMA is optional). 
  • Ability to mark out and develop components using Radial line, Parallel line and triangulation pattern development methods 
  • Ability too use basic CAD to develop components and assemblies

🔧 Comprehensive Training by Industry Experts 

Our trainers bring real-world experience to the classroom. Each instructor holds a minimum HNC in Engineering and has had hands on background experience in the industry, providing apprentices with insights that bridge theory and practice.

  • Duration: 42 months, including end-point assessment 
  • Delivery: Day release at our Engineering Academy 
  • Funding: Funded through the Apprenticeship Levy
